Piippu Terrace cafe -Vihavuosi

PIIPPU Terassikahvila is a charming, old-fashioned café and restaurant located in the former power plant and maintenance hall of a historic sawmill. The rustic environment, nestled between two lakes and two rapids, is truly unique. This picturesque village is split between two provinces: Pirkanmaa and Kanta-Häme.

Throughout the summer, Piippu hosts a variety of programs and events, with plenty of activities for children.

The area around the old sawmill offers something for everyone, and the authentic roar of the rapids creates an unforgettable experience. Nearby, you'll find the 19th-century Myllymuseo and the 17th-century Myllypirtti, both rich in history.

For Nature Lovers

• Located on an island, Piippu offers stunning rapids, two lakes, and a rich variety of birds and wildlife. It's a haven for nature photographers.

For Families

• Enjoy a play area for young children, large rays to feed near the pier, and traditional board and yard games.

For Hikers

• Visit the nearby Kukkosaari hiking destination, where you can enjoy campfire coffee and roast sausages by the water. Guided group hikes (minimum 5 people) are available for €40 per person, including coffee and sausages. Duration: 2 hours.

For Groups

• Hire a guide for scenic hiking trips to the Kukkosaari lean-to. We can also arrange private events, TYHY/TYKY packages, and provide performers, trainers, and equipment for larger gatherings.

For History Buffs

• Discover the historical value of the Vihavuosi area. The old sawmill's power plant building, protected by the Finnish Museum Agency, now houses Piippu Terrace Café. Photo exhibitions showcasing the history of the village and sawmill add to the charm. The Vihavuosi mill museum, maintained by Hauho-Seura ry, dates back to 1433, with artifacts on display in the idyllic surroundings.

For Boaters

• Large berths (side mooring, no reservations) are available. The café, which serves alcohol, is next to the pier. Overnight stays cost €10/day, with electricity available for an additional €10/day. Canoe and small boat transfers between lakes are possible using a hand-pulled trailer or by arrangement (€15).

For Cyclists

• Enjoy scenic countryside roads. We are part of the Welcome cyclist community. Bicycle charging is available for €5.

For Adventurers

• Rent kayaks or SUP boards, play yard games, enjoy beach volleyball, or swim at a nearby beach.

For Event Enthusiasts

• Piippu hosts music, humor, and themed events during the summer, often free of charge. Check our website for program details.

For Event Organizers

• External event organizers are welcome to bring their ideas to Piippu. Contact Tuija Mannila at +358 50 548 3210 for collaboration opportunities.

For Motorists

• Vihavuosi is easily accessible via scenic asphalt roads, with the final 3 km on a well-maintained dirt road. Parking is available.
• The motorist cafe is on Wednesdays in June-August from 16:00 to 19:00

For Dog Owners

• Dogs are welcome! From June to August, the dog café is open on Tuesdays from 13:00 to 16:00.

For Food and Coffee Lovers

• Enjoy a selection of rolls, buns, pretzels, pulled pork hamburgers, and hot dogs. Soup lunches can be arranged for groups by advance order.

For Night Owls

• Relax with a big TV, curated music playlists, or karaoke (by request). Alcoholic beverages are available.

For Art Lovers

• Admire rotating art exhibitions in the historic heating plant building, starting in June.

For Travelers with Motorhomes/Caravans

• While we don't have a dedicated camping area, parking is available for €10/night. Services are available when the café is open.
